I have concerns right now.  Suicide is on the rise.

I’m not one to voice a lot of opinions or post a bunch of inspirational quotes…
but I’m being nudged by my heart to talk about this with others.

As a therapist who worked in crisis for many years
I’m hearing statistics and talk that are bringing up a lot of red flags for me.

Crisis work entailed accessing for danger to self (suicide),
danger to others (homicide), and gravely disabled (unable to care for self).

I’m hearing both from clients and peers about the increase in suicide and talk about suicide.

With Covid continuing on with little end in sight it’s becoming a perfect set up
for increased depression and anxiety.

If you add on financial worries and loss of income it becomes even more important
to watch out for your mental well being.

Reach Out …..There’s help.

This isn’t a warm and fuzzy topic but I feel it should be talked about.

It’s not unusual to have thoughts of suicide or wishing things
were different than they are currently.

It becomes serious when those thoughts move over into the planning stage
and hopelessness takes over.

Often the single thing that can help is connecting with someone.

Calling a friend or seeking professional help.

No one needs to feel so bad they want to end their life.

There is help out there.

With more isolation and less social contact we need to be responsible
for our emotional well being.

We want to avoid falling deeper into the abyss of despair
where hopelessness breeds and expands.

Reach out.

We can also reach out to friends and loved ones.

Often people just want to be heard, to have someone listen. To feel that they matter.

If you feel depressed and have thoughts of suicide the following link
is a type of assessment scale that will give you a risk score.
