We have this assumption that life should be easy
and that we should be happy all the time.
I hear this often in therapy….”I just want to be happy”.
In reality parts of life are hard and I don’t believe
we’re always suppose to be happy.
There are hard things that happen to us…
and happy is not what we want to feel.
To become emotionally strong is learning how to process and deal with the hard.
Most of us are unhappy when we go through a divorce; even if we actually want the divorce.
Divorce is a loss of ideals, often a loss of hope,
most certainly a loss of what was…
Divorce is hard…but so is living in a marriage when the love has died.
Living alone is hard but so is living in a relationship
where your soul has been squashed.
Doing everything yourself is hard but so is never getting what you want and need in the relationship.
Living on your own is hard but so is walking on egg shells trying not to upset others.
The beauty of coming out of a divorce is you now have the time to focus on you.
You get to do and be anything you want.
You get to go after your dreams.
The aftermath of a divorce is challenging but it does get easier as
you learn to let go of the anger and fear and focus on your new life.
Embrace the journey and pay attention to what dreams you start to imagine.
These dreams become your yellow brick road.
You get to do whatever you want now.
Take the time to heal, take the time to dream.
Your life won’t ever be the same but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great life.
You get to choose your hard.
