When you first get divorced often you are bombarded
with all these different strong emotions.
Betrayal, anger, revenge, fear, relief, bitterness, shame, guilt, and the list goes on.
There comes a time when you need to just let it go, all the emotions
that aren’t moving you forward.
As I was going through the divorce process I decided to go to a support group for divorced women.
What was amazing to me was how bitter and angry some of these ladies
continued to be after years of their divorce being finalized.
The most pronounced of the emotions these ladies held on to were bitterness and anger.
It’s normal to have these emotions as they flow in and out of the divorce process.
What’s not healthy is two years, five years, ten years after the divorce
and you’re still hanging on to these strong emotions.
I understand as a clinician that holding on to these emotions allows you to keep
just in front of the sadness, loneliness and the pain of a divorce.
But it also keeps you stuck.
You are contributing to your own suffering.
Your ex most likely doesn’t feel these feelings, they’ve moved on.
You are the only one suffering.
You feel like you got a raw deal and your friends are tired of hearing about it.
It doesn’t matter anymore.
The reality is that you are now divorced and it’s time to move on.
The pain of losing a relationship is hard.
That pain needs to move through you so you don’t get stuck
in the loop of anger and bitterness.
You can do hard things.
If you are still holding on to anger and bitterness it’s time to let go.
Then get on with making your life awesome.
A life well lived is the perfect revenge.
You got this…..
